October 29, 1925 – September 15, 2014
It is with heavy hearts we convey the peaceful passing of a wonderful and gentle father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Waiting with open arms is his loving wife of 60 years, Blanche (2005). He will be remembered as the best dad ever by his children, Mary Jane and husband Gino Scodellaro (Louis Mullins 1999), Theresa and husband Michael Mullins, Paul Laporte, Gisele Bick and husband Greg Bick (2008). He was the oldest brother of Roger (deceased), Albert (deceased), Rosabelle and Donald Gurczynski, Philip (deceased) and Rosaire and Barbara Laporte. Dad was very fortunate in having a special friend Aline Byrne in his life. They spent many joyful days together and we are all grateful for her love of him. He was a dear Pépé and lived his life as a great example for his grandchildren, Michelle and Chris Eagen, Jesse and Mary Jo Mullins, the late Joseph Mullins (2008) and Amy, Leigh and Heather Mullins, Tracy and Renee Dunn, Nicole and Dean Langille, Brian and Margaret Biekx, Stacey Gauthier-Biekx, Derek and Jennifer Laporte, Keith Laporte, Craig and Gemma Laporte, Jonathon Bick and Owen Bick. He was a great-pépé to 20 beautiful great-grandchildren. Roland was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Branch #8783 and was fortunate to be retired longer than he worked at Ford Motor Company. Visiting will be held at Melady Funeral Home, 572 Notre Dame St., Belle River (519-728-1500) on Thursday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, September 19, 2014, at St. Simon and St. Jude Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Annunciation Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
